Ginger to Participate in Shriners Fundraiser

Ginger Elizabeth will be serving up desserts this Saturday, May 15th at Cyclebration — a fundraiser for Shriners Hospitals for Children that combines the world of cycling with great food and wine. Several other top local restaurants, wineries and breweries will also be participating, including: Mulvaney’s B&L, Ella, Selland’s, Lange Twins and Bogle. The event will include a silent auction with such items up for bid as a Lance Armstrong autographed Sports Illustrator magazine and a George Hincapie autographed cycling jersey with all proceeds going to Shriners. The Sacramento Business Journal has name Ginger Elizabeth Hahn one of their “40 Under 40″.

Excerpt from The Sacramento Business Journal:
When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I would do exactly what I am doing today. I started in the food and beverage industry at the age of 14 serving pie and ice cream at a local Apple Ranch in Apple Hill where I am from. My dream as a child was to be a chef or a pastry chef. I use to put on cooking shows for my sisters and pretend to be Julia Child.

What is your favorite thing about the region?
I love the trees and I love the central location. I can get to San Francisco, Napa and Tahoe all in about one hour. These are three of my most favorite places on earth. As I have traveled around Central America and Europe I have talked to many different people from around the world. These three places are some of the most desired destinations to see around the world. I would never take that for granted.

If you could improve one thing about the region, what would it be?
I think midtown needs better lighting, you can’t even see people crossing the streets at night; it is dangerous.

What’s one thing you want to do before you die?
Study the agriculture of different types of cacao with indigenous farmers in Ecuador and Venezuela. I also hope that my company can help cocoa farmers and spread the word of their struggles and hard work.

Ginger Elizabeth To Appear on TLC’s Chocolate Wars

Local chocolatier Ginger Elizabeth Hahn is about to get some big-time national exposure. At 10 p.m. Monday, May 10, TLC will air a new show called “Chocolate Wars,” featuring Hahn competing against two leading chocolate artists to create a chocolate sculpture. It’s the latest in the channel’s lineup of culinary adventure programs, in the style of “Ultimate Cake Off.” Hahn was invited to audition and was chosen from a big pool of the best chocolate makers in the country. She calls the experience both “very humbling” and “terribly stressful.” While she’s not allowed to say if she won, she promises a lot of drama. “I felt kind of bad about it,” she says. “It’s not me. But it’s very entertaining. That’s what TV’s all about.”
